From time to time we get questions on mounting the twister/stretchers to make them stiff enough not to flex.
SO issue that have happened in the past is folk will just screw the strut down to the top of a bench thinking it will be stiff enough. Most of the time this ends up with a bent or broken pin on the new jig they just set up. As the tension is applied to the string the (not stiff enough strut) will flex the strut causing the pins to slightly tip towards each other. Hence the pins no longer parallel and the string will migrate up the pins, The further up the pins the string moves the 1/4" pin isn't strong enough to hold 400 lbs a 1/2" up the pin,( the pins are 1.5" long to allow to lay out string with the pins being parallel to each other keeping even strand tension when twisted. That said the strut needs to be mounted to at least a 2x6 on edge bolted about every 4th or 5th hole. In the instructions provided with the jig will be a parts list of materials needed. This is the minimum we recommend. Many of our customers have went above and beyond our recommendations. I will post pics of a few as I can find them. We encourage folks to share there set ups on here.
